Personal trainer. Dancer. Yoga instructor. Sports masseur. When it comes to health and fitness, Leonard Heng does it all. Versatility, mastery and being in control is the name of his game and that reflects in his work and his style.
For Leonard, paying attention to proportion is key. He doesn’t limit himself to dressing a certain way and prefers to dress in different styles. “It’s really dependent on my mood and what I feel. The most important detail for me is in the fit and that it flows according to my body.”
But if he had to pick his go-to outfit, the multi-hyphenate would go with jeans and a denim jacket over a fitted tee. “Keep it simple, keep it effective. I like outfits that work seamlessly from day to night.”
“The French Tuck is a go-to hack I use – when you tuck in just the front of the shirt. Makes you look slimmer, legs look longer, hides the hips.”
A fan of layers and colour-blocking, Zie’s go-to outfit will always involve outerwear and jackets. “Everything else from head to toe will revolve around what jacket I choose to wear. That way I can decide if I want the jacket to pop or blend with the entire outfit!”
Inspired mostly by ’90s styles, Zie’s go-to outfit is a long-sleeved black turtleneck with a nice pair of ripped jeans, topped off with a pair of tinted retro-style sunglasses or necklace.
“I usually keep a handy spray bottle of water to spray wrinkles and creases away. A quick spray and dry will do the trick!”
Just over a year ago, Kumi J decided to step out of her comfort zone to pursue music full-time. She left her job in the media broadcast industry and founded music website, kumij-sound.com. On the side, she manages the website for a local clothing brand, and intends to start her own label in future.
A fan of heritage styles and a self-proclaimed denimhead, Kumi would often pick a pair of Levi’s® Vintage Clothing jeans to complete her vintage look.
Her favourite go-to style? A pair of straight-cut vintage denim jeans with a vintage tee or crop top. “A bandana as neckerchief or hairband adds a nice touch to the whole outfit.”
“In order to create an aged look on clothes, I would stain them with concentrated tea and expose them to sunlight for a period of time.”
Aaron James Sacil is a freelance creative in photography and graphic design. When he’s not busy chasing deadlines, he’s always trying to find the best beancurd in town.
“Wear the clothes, don’t make the clothes wear you” is Aaron’s personal style philosophy. His go-to staples are oversized tees and floral shirts – “I might have an unhealthy amount of them,” he quips.
The music he listens to is the biggest influence on his style, adds Aaron. “To name a few, I take inspiration from A$AP Rocky to Alex Turner to Oli Sykes – artists that have a style of their own. Sometimes I just scroll through Pinterest to find interesting fits, it’s a goldmine.”
“I like to dress functionally without losing aesthetics; keeping the Bauhaus principle ‘form follows function’ in mind. I try to layer my clothes here and there, but it takes true dedication for fashion to do that in this Singapore heat, so often times I try to keep it simple.”
